Nerd Candy (Totally Nerdcore)

May 2nd, 2008 Xen Posted in Erotica, Life & Culture | No Comments »

While at the show, I had the pleasure of meeting Nate from TotallyNerdcore.com and spoke to him about “our” business models and the entire nerd erotica niche. The “Nerdcore” brand has been in business for over 2 years now and is expanding into the publishing front. Including the current anthology “S.O.S.”, they’re coming out with several other original titles, including a celebrity parody and a graphic novels on drawn erotica in American history. I wish them the best!

Nate of TotallyNerdcore

Go check them out at http://www.totallynerdcore.com.

This is exactly the type of stuff I’d love to have the funds to finance one day. I’d love to one day see us as competitors in a thriving market (trading stories about sale spikes over bottles of the finest champagne, clad in monocles and top hats), but plugging an excellent product is good enough for now. Buy their calendars, they’re sexy and very well done.

New York Comic Con - Day 1 - The Pictures!

May 2nd, 2008 Xen Posted in Entertainment, Life & Culture, Toys & Gadgets | No Comments »

Here’s the roll-dump from my shitty digicam. Notes come with their respective thumbnails. I wish I would’ve taken more, but I was… distracted by a chance meeting with a new friend. Expect more from Carlos in the next few weeks!

We begin with the outside of the Jacob Javits Center itself. Take notice of the suits in line and the awesome ceiling within the building.

Jacob Javits Center Inside

The line inside was quite a sight, to say the least.

New York Comic Con - Day 1

April 22nd, 2008 Xen Posted in Entertainment, Film, Life & Culture | 1 Comment »

There are few adjectives to describe the sense of anticipation for my very first comic book expo. I’ve been familiar with the Jacob Javits Convention Center in the past, but it’s always been for the NY International Auto Show. Cars are fun and all, but it doesn’t have the same tie to my hobbies as comic books and all sorts of nerdy goodness. This is taken from notes taken down in a tiny Moleskin-ripoff notebook over the course of the three days.

For today, my personal reaction to the con, getting freebies, Grant Morrison part 1, and the X-Files II panel (recorded sloppily by pencil).

IV - II?

March 31st, 2008 Xen Posted in Games | No Comments »

Grand Theft Auto IV is almost here. The much-hyped latest installment in the series brings us back to Liberty City, but it’s not the one we knew back then in 2002. This is a whole new town… with a whole new cast.

The official site offers an excellent map of the city with the characters as well, but you really need to watch the individual character clips to get the most of them. That is, if you want to know all of this early.

Niko

Rockstar has gone through great lengths to give out information about the game and the details of the new features added (of which there are hundreds). There’s the addition of 16-player multiplayer, an “official” first for the series. Niko himself has gained a massive amount of heart, compared to the generic thug of GTA III. He’s got a cousin to watch over, progressive work to do, a real life to make in this massive and beautiful city.

I would like to write more on the game, but there’s only one point that I want to address today. The most important thought of all for all gamers of any sort, when they find out their favorite game is going multi-platform/console… “where the hell do I spend my money?”

For the Workman Villain

March 20th, 2008 Xen Posted in Toys & Gadgets | No Comments »

Just a reminder, the “Skeletool” is now available for sale. Leatherman’s latest innovation, the five-ounce seven+ function tool may seem a bit too expensive for its’ utility, but it makes up for it in ease of use. When you combine it with the Bit Kit, it makes me think of replacing my trusty Swiss Tool RS when the price for this drops a bit. Most multi-tools are bulky, but this one seems to really have the right combination of weight and power.

Oh, and it looks bad ass.

How To Afford Anything Your Heart Desires

March 10th, 2008 Xen Posted in Life & Culture, Toys & Gadgets | No Comments »

This is old news, but still a great read. In January of 2008, Ken Rockwell of photography fame posted an article on his secret to affording all the random “toys” that he’s always wanted. These include anything from top-of-the-line cameras to flashy cars. I turn to his guide quite often in my own struggle with finances, this part in particular:

If you really want something, buy it, or wait until you can.

Don’t buy something that isn’t what you really want. If you do, you’ll keep dreaming about what you really wanted, and eventually get it. When you do, you’ve just paid twice.

This couldn’t be more on the mark. I’ve found myself longing for the same things again and again, only to fill in the gaps of entertainment with other things that ultimately can’t hold my interest. The key to success is to:

  1. Go for something.
  2. Get it.

The “it” is the most important factor and must remain static. There’s that old saying that goes “money is easy to make if you only want to make money“. Single-minded pursuit of your heart’s desire(s) is the key to success. Trust me on this one.

He goes into great detail about frugal living and how much of your life can be made affordable with seemingly simple changes. Of course, not everything is obtainable by everyone, but the tips that he offers really do work. At least, they have in my experience.

Click through to read the entire article on his official website.

“She Comes First”

March 8th, 2008 Xen Posted in Erotica, Literature, Reviews | No Comments »

One half of the world cannot understand the pleasures of the other.

- Jane Austin

If you are fortunate enough to have experienced the joys of sex at this point or even consider yourself a Casanova, ask yourself this. Are you a good enough lover that your partner would farm gold for you in World of Warcraft while you watch the latest Lost or hold your screws as you work on installing that second video card?

If you’ve answered yes to both of those questions, consider me charmed. Unfortunately, the sad reality is that a large amount of men don’t take the effort to find out the best way to satisfy a woman. The same can be said for the opposite gender, but let’s keep this one for the guys.

Fortunately, there’s a book titled “She Comes First” that’s been in print for quite some time now that covers the female orgasm in detail… and with enough of an entertaining slant to it as not to read like a product manual. Catch the full review after the jump.

Wet

March 6th, 2008 Xen Posted in Toys & Gadgets | No Comments »

Just when you thought showering couldn’t get any easier, comes along another product to defy such common sense. The TAG “SilverTAG” showering system (?) comes complete with 18 showerheads, each of which can be controlled through an embedded touchscreen. The catch is that it comes at a price tag of $100,000.

Yeah.
